Our story
A four-season friend
Founded by Cheryl Tyler, TerraFlora is passionate about plants and design. Living in Maine, where the winters are long and the days are short, TerraFlora was founded as a solution to the physical and emotional fatigue that comes from being tucked in tight buildings that don’t breath, dry heat and the deprivation of greenery. Plants and moss invigorate a room as well as those who inhabit it, they transpire moisture to the air while removing toxins and unpleasant smells. What’s more, the ambient light and vibrant foliage literally bring life to any space. We create biophilic designs that improve and nourish the health and well-being of our clients - allowing us all to breathe a little easier.

About Cheryl
The interconnectedness between plants and people is something I have intuitively understood my whole life. Nature is where I have always gone to get grounded and inspired. I grew up in a river city in Kansas with the woods on one side and the prairie grasses singing the wind’s song on the other.
In my mid-twenties, I moved to California, where I was awed by the redwoods to the north and Joshua trees to the south. It was in my garden, surrounded by succulents, rosemary hedges that trailed over walls and a poinsettia tree that reached the upper windows of our three-story Victorian, that I went for regeneration. San Francisco is where I encountered my first vertical garden, one of those definitive, awe-inspiring moments that caused me to imagine vertical space with a new eye for possibilities - realizing, the sky is the limit.
Returning to Maine, I wanted to find a way to keep my love for all things green alive throughout the year. While I love the contemplative beauty and space the winter-scape provides outside, I wanted to create an environment inside that was cozy, healthy and full of thriving flora. Being surrounded by plants in my home and workspace brings daily beauty and discovery to my life as I get to know their individual personalities and needs and watch them grow as a community. Under the influence of plants, I find it easy to escape the madness, slow down and exhale.
